FROM THE SEA TO THE MARKET

"From the Sea to the Market" is a project born from the need to address the pervasive issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. Conceived by Italian artist Matteo Mandelli, the idea emerged from the juxtaposition of the beauty of the sea and the ugly reality of plastic waste. This innovative project aims to use art as a medium to provoke thought and inspire action against plastic pollution, turning collected plastic waste into visually stunning and thought-provoking art pieces.

Milano, Navigli

02

In 2021, the project took shape in Milan along the iconic Navigli canals. A fisherman, drawn within the canal, cast a net filled with plastic waste, symbolically hung from the famous iron bridge. On the other side, a "fish market" displayed the catch—plastic waste instead of fish—highlighting the intrusion of plastic into our environment and food chain.

Indonesia - Lombok

03

Project Name

The journey continues in Indonesia, where the world's first plastic restaurant has been established on the island of Lombok, in Kuta. Reflecting local traditions, this unique establishment mimics a typical Indonesian street restaurant, known as a Lalapan. The dishes, crafted from collected plastic, are not for consumption but serve as one-of-a-kind art pieces, each telling a story of the pervasive impact of plastic pollution.
